Newspaper Utility Box

Today I am sharing a DIY to make a Utility Box. For this DIY, you don’t need any costly material you just need some newspapers and strong glue. This is so easy and inexpensive and is best suited for storing light weight things like jewelry, craft embellishments, pearls, etc.

The procedure for the Jewelry Box is as follows:

Step 1: Take some pages of a magazine and divide into half each page. Roll each page into a tube using a pencil or any thin stick. Prepare around 47 such tubes. Color 20 tubes black and other 27 with magenta. You can select any color of your choice.

Step 2: Take a spare cardboard and it must be hard. Cut two small squares of side 3 cm. Paste both the squares together to form a thick square. Wrap the tape on all the sides of this square. Now take a black tube and wrap it around this cardboard square to get coiled square as shown in figure. Seal both the ends of tube with glue and remove the cardboard square. Do this with all other black tubes. At the end, you must have twenty black squares.

Step 3: Take a magenta tube and roll it to form a closed coil as shown in the image. Secure both its ends using glue. Prepare 30 such coils leaving six magenta tubes as it is.  Now at the end of this step you must have 21 magenta circular coils.

Step 4: Now take one magenta coil and paste it inside the black square as shown in the image. Do this for all black squares and 20 magenta coils. We will use one magenta coil that’s left later on. Let them dry properly.

Step 5: Take two black squares with magenta coil pasted at the center and paste their one side with each other. Do these for all other black squares and you must have 10 pairs of squares now. Take two pairs of squares and paste them together such that they will form a big square grid having four smaller squares. Prepare three such big squares. At the end, you must have four pairs of squares and three big square grids. Take a magenta tube and wrap it around the sides of all pair of squares and two big square grids. Leave one square grid as it is for later.

Step 6: Now take one big square grid whose sides are wrapped with magenta tube and paste four pairs of squares on each side of this grid. Do this step very carefully and the glue must be very strong so that it can hold the parts together. This will be the box.

Step 7: Take another big square grid whose sides are wrapped with magenta tube and square grid which does not have magenta tube wrapped on its sides. Paste them together upside down and grid with magenta tube wrapping will be the top. Take leftover magenta coil and paste it on the top at the center. This will be the lid of the box.

Step 8: Take sheet of any color and draw a square on it which must be equal to the big square grid with magenta tube wrapping. I have drawn square of side 7cm. Now mark a point 4.5cm from all the four sides of the square. Draw straight line on all the four points such that an outer square is formed. Then extend all the sides of Inner Square from both the ends and you will get a grid having small squares at the corners. Next cut the marked sides in the image and score all the lines so that folding becomes easy. Form a container by pasting the cut sides on to the other as shown in the image. Now place this paper container in the paper box and close it with the lid.

Paper Utility Box is ready!!

Happy DIY!!
