Papered: Bird and Nest Home Decor

Today we will be learning how to make Bird and Nest décor using paper Mache. If you have heard this term first time then you must go and check out my previous post of Paper Mache. In my previous post, I have shared the procedure of making Paper Mache. In this post, we will make a Bird’s Nest using Paper Mache for home décor. If you have seen my earlier posts, then you must have realized that this is our second variation of making Bird’s Nest and yet it’s too different from the previous one. Let us look at the procedure.

Prepare the paper Mache with paper and glue. Now take a glass bowl and grease it with some oil or Vaseline. Start spreading Mache uniformly on inside surface of the bowl. Don’t make too thick layer of Mache. Once done, let this bowl rest to dry completely for a day at least or until hardened completely. Then carefully remove the dried Mache bowl from the bowl with your hands.

Trim the edges of the Mache bowl roughly with the scissor to get uneven edges. Now color the bowl with brown color and let it rest for some time. Using paper Mache, make small oval shape which will be the egg inside the nest. Do make it rest for a day to get completely dry and then color it with white.

Make a coil of green yarn by wrapping yarn onto your fingers for 8-10 times. Place this coil inside the nest to give you nest some greenery. Place the egg that we have prepared earlier in the middle of the nest. We will need two birds to place in the nest. You can use small toy birds as well but I have used Yarn Birds. Paste these yarn birds on the edge of the nest leaving some gap in between both the birds.

Now we will make a stand for the nest to rest. For this, you will need several thin newspaper tubes. Take a circular container and start wrapping newspaper tubes across it to form a hollow circular coil. Continue the process of wrapping using 5-6 tubes. Secure the end of the coil with glue and carefully remove the container from coil. Apply some glue all over the coil and let it rest. Using thin newspaper tubes, prepare four small coils of equal size.

Make four thick newspaper tubes of equal size to make the legs of the stand. Paste small coils on one end of each thick newspaper tube. Paste the opposite end of these tubes under the hollow circular coil. Follow the steps as shown in the image.

Now color the stand with the colors of your choice. I have colored the top coil with sea blue and legs with black color. Decorate the top coil with some artificial leaves and or anything green. Place the nest inside the hollow coil.
