Tribal Dolls

I am here again with another home décor idea that will grace your home with its beauty.  You all have seen tribal women showpiece which is so elegant and also quite costly. So why not make them at home with old newspapers. Yes you read it right, we will be making these beautiful tribal dolls. The best part of making these dolls by yourself is that you can make them of any color and size as per your wish. I have seen this DIY somewhere on the internet and I really liked it so I thought of sharing it on the blog. Let’s start with this amazing craft.

You will need some old newspapers for this DIY. Divide each sheet of the newspaper into small strips and then make thin tubes out of these strips. You will need quite a lot tubes for this DIY depending upon the number of dolls you are making. Firstly, coil several tubes into a circular disc of radius 4 cm and secure this disc with glue. Make sure that this disc must have a hole at the center. Now take another sheet of newspaper and divide it into half. Now roll both the halves on to each other to form a thick tube. Add this thick tube into the hole of the disc and secure it with glue. At the top of this tube, coil another thin tube as shown in the image. Then take another tubes and roll them onto the first one to make head of the doll.

Paste a thin tube horizontally at the end of the rolled tube with glue. This will be the hands of the doll. Take three more tubes and fold them across the pasted horizontal tube securing with the glue. Take three more tubes and paste them across the tube on the other side forming a cross shape. Now cut extra part of the tubes with the scissor. Top part of the doll is ready and now we will make bottom part of the doll. For bottom part, paste thin tubes diagonally to form the base of the skirt of the doll. Paste 7 to 8 tubes for the skirt in circular manner. Then roll one thin tube just above the skirt across the cross. Take small pieces of newspaper and paste them with glue and water solution on the base of the skirt until fully covered. Lastly, roll another tube just above the skirt and secure it with glue. Take reference from the image for clear understanding.

Doll is ready to color and you can use any color. I have used three colors- one for top part, middle and bottom. Once the coloring is done, make another circular disc by coiling thin tubes of radius 2 cm. using your fingers, make dome out of this circular disc. This will be the basket that doll will carry. Now take hands of the doll around the head and paste hands on the basket while the basket rests on the top of the head.

Tribal Doll is ready. I have made three more such dolls- one of same size and two smaller one. You can have as many variations of these dolls as you want. It’s up to your wish of selecting size, style and color of these tribal dolls.

Happy DIY!!
